It has very stable engine mountings. 128 Liters diesel tank capacity provides uninterrupted fuel supply for long hours of engine run without refill. The Cat 424B is fitted with unique technology, Variable Displacement Piston Pump, which is an efficient system and has longer life. The system flow and demand are met at required time ensuring smooth and controlled operation. The hydraulic system works only when it senses demand from the implement. When there is no demand, there is no flow. The engine torque is best matched with system demand. The enhanced life of the hydraulic oil improves the component life, reduces the down time and lowers the operating cost with reduced oil consumption. The non-continuous flow of hydraulic oil through valves and circuits, when there is no demand, ensures less parasitic load on engine.
The Anti-Stall feature prevents engine from stalling under high hydraulic loads at low engine speeds. Refill capacity of 424B hydraulic system is 71 liters only when compared to 130 litters of equivalent competition machine. Less oil replacement cost. The Caterpillar Power Shuttle transmission provides four speeds forward and reverses. Full synchromesh gears and hydraulically shifted forward and reverse shuttle clutches allow direction and travel speed to be changed on-the-go.
A neutral start provision prevents starting while the shuttle is engaged. Brake discs are specially designed for extend service life. Periodic inspection of brake disc condition possible due to provision of inspection plugs. Durable and reliable lift arm design with thicker circular torque tube, improved side and stiffener plate profiles and stronger welded joints, provide excellent resistance to twisting loads. Deflector plates on both arms protect cabin glasses from particle hit during loading application. Return to dig system repositions loader bucket to dig position after dumping. This improves operator comfort and efficiency resulting higher production. Life lubricated pivot bearing reduces maintenance risk and increases uptime of machine. Fully hydrostatic power steering makes maneuverability much easier. Shorter turning circle reduces cycle time and increases productivity.
The Caterpillar 424B Backhoe Loader included monitor lights and an audible alarm that warns the operator of low engine oil pressure, high engine coolant temperature, improper alternator function and low brake fluid. A monitoring system test occurs on startup. A monitor lamp warns the operator when the parking brake is applied with an audible alarm sounding when a travel direction is selected. Hazard flashers and a failed bulb warning system are standard. There are two turn signal indicators located on the dash.
