2011 Peterbilt Model 587
The Peterbilt Model 587 includes the latest 2010 PACCAR MX engine pace at 380 – 485 horsepower or else the 2010 Cummins ISX15 obtainable with a horsepower range of 400 to 600. The dashboard and instrument panel appeared taller than normal, but the forward visibility remained exceptional. The hood, from the driver’s perch, is nearly invisible.
The Model 587 based on the same chassis as the 386. In addition offering manufacturing efficiencies, this provides the 587 an extra 9 degree of wheel cut compared to its predecessor. That comes from improved steering geometry and TRW’s new high-pressure steering gear.
According to Peterbilt the Model 387 was first-class to begin with, but certain refinements get better the aerodynamics of the 587 by about 2.5 percent. This was achieved generally from re-sculpting the hood and the front end of the truck.
The engine compartment was pretty tidy, particularly the firewall, and with some designed-in efficiency offered by the MX, routine maintenance and even some basic repair tasks come into view to be less complex. Driver inspection items were easily accessible, with one distinguished exception.
